Monterey County Hospitality Association and Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association Partner for the Premier Trade Tasting in Monterey

The May 24th “Great Taste Comes With the Territory” event will focus on Alternative Summer Whites and Pinot Noirs

Monterey County, CA - May 3, 2005 - The Monterey County Hospitality Association, in partnership with the Monterey County Vintners & Growers Association, is pleased to offer the seminar “Great Taste Comes With the Territory" on Tuesday, May 24th from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa. Trade accounts and media in the Monterey County area are invited to attend this event. The tasting is a follow-up to the 2004 sold-out event “An Introduction to Monterey Wine Country”.

The seminar will consist of two components, a panel discussion and an open tasting from the wineries within Monterey County. The exciting and interactive panel session will explore tasting the uniqueness of Monterey County’s award-winning Alternative Summer Whites and Pinot Noirs. Guests will have the opportunity to taste wine from eight panel guests as MCVGA winemakers discuss their wines and winemaking techniques. After the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to taste all that Monterey Wine Country has to offer as over 15 wineries pour samples of their best.

“Local trade accounts are so important to the viability of the Monterey County wine industry,” commented Rhonda Motil, executive director of MCVGA. Ms. Motil continued, “When a local resident or a tourist to the area dines at a restaurant or attends a local function, they predominantly want to taste the local “flavor”. This includes both the food and the wines that are produced in the region. Monterey County is no exception to this phenomenon. We are pleased to have this opportunity to present the wines of Monterey County to those key influencers within the area who are guiding wine purchasing decisions.”

A sample of the participating wineries will include Boyer Wines, Carmichael Vintners, Chateau Julien, Estancia, Joullian Vineyards, Marilyn Remark Wines, Morgan Winery, Paraiso Vineyards, San Saba, Silver Mountain Vineyards, Tudor Winery, Ventana Vineyards / Meador Estate, and Wines of Carmel.

“As a newer winery to the area, we enjoy opportunities such as this to pour our wines for the local community”, commented panel participant Joel Burnstein, owner of Marilyn Remark Winery. He noted, “As a recent listing on the Wine Enthusiast’s “Top 100”, I take great pride in being one of the representatives that is showcasing the quality that is coming from Monterey. I often find that guests that taste the wines from Monterey County in this type of format walk away with an extended knowledge base of the amazing wines that are coming from the region and they are eager to add the gems that they find to their wine lists.”

Food & beverage managers, sommeliers, wine buyers, banquet captains and wine servers will not want to miss this interactive event that will give them the tools that they need to continue to be successful in wine selection, presentation, and sales.

As this annual event sold out in 2004, reservations by Tuesday, May 17 are encouraged. Reservations can be made to MCHA at 831.626.8636. Admission is $10 for MCHA members and $20 for prospective members.
