Passport Weekend and the Monterey Wine Auction and Gala Slated for February 18-20, 2005

Monterey County, CA- December 3, 2004 - The Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association (MCVGA) will be hosting the annual Passport Weekend and Monterey Wine Auction & Gala from Friday, February 18 through Sunday, February 20, 2005. Passport Weekend includes weekend-long events at tasting rooms throughout Monterey County while the Monterey Wine Auction & Gala will occur Saturday, February 19 in the barrel room at the Kendall-Jackson Vineyards and Winery.

The Passport Weekend journey begins with the guest picking up their commemorative wine glass and official passport at one of the 20 participating wineries. They will then embark on their adventure by visiting tasting rooms and getting their passport stamped at each location. Passport travelers will enjoy music, entertainment, food and wine tasting. Upon completion of touring a select amount of wineries, participants will receive chocolates and will be entered to win the grand prize of a Monterey Wine Country gift basket, valued at over $1500.

The Monterey Wine Auction and Gala will feature extraordinary wine, lifestyle, and other one-of-a-kind packages. Guests will enjoy the picturesque Kendall-Jackson Vineyards and Winery in Monterey County, typically not open to the general public. Winemakers from throughout Monterey will host tables for the evening and pour their best in an intimate setting. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Central Coast Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice and several other worthwhile local charitable causes, such as college scholarships for the children of local agricultural employees, the American Vineyard Foundation, and viticulture research through the University of California’s Monterey outreach office.

Tickets are available by contacting the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association at (831) 375- 9400 or online at www.montereywines.org. Tickets for Passport Weekend are $35 before February 1, 2005 and $40 thereafter. Tickets for the Monterey Wine Auction & Gala are $150 and include complimentary shuttle transportation from Monterey. Guests can purchase a weekend getaway package, which features both the Passport Weekend and the Monterey Wine Auction and Gala, for $175.
