Monterey’s Wine Country Passport Weekend and the
Monterey Wine Auction & Gala Prove to Be a Perfect Pairing
Wine enthusiasts packed the Peninsula for Passport Weekend Festivities
Monterey County, CA- March 3, 2005 - Monterey Wine Country’s Third Annual Passport Weekend, which occurred February 18-20, 2005, proved to be a wonderful experience for guests to the region, as well as for locals who were discovering all that Monterey Wine Country has to offer. The passport program allowed guests to enjoy wine, food, and entertainment over the three-day weekend. Attendance was at record setting levels, which could be partially attributed to the recent “Sideways” movie phenomenon that has encouraged consumers to get out and explore wine regions throughout California.
The Monterey Wine Auction & Gala also took place Saturday, February 19 at Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates. This was the first time that the Monterey Wine Auction & Gala was paired with the Passport Weekend. Proceeds from the event will be distributed throughout the Monterey County community in 2005. Contributions will be announced in April 2005.
“What a wonderful discovery to find an area with so many scenic attractions! My family and I truly would love to extend our thanks to the energetic people who greeted us at each winery with genuine warmth. It is nice to be treated like old friends,” stated David O’Conner of San Mateo, CA
O’Conner continued, “The entire collection of wines, even library wines, was open to taste so that we could tell the difference between various years and bottling styles. It is also pleasant to see many festivities, like barrel tasting, BBQ, and live music appeal to all of my family. Every aspect of this weekend was well planned and we’re looking forward to doing this again next year!”
MCVGA sponsors several events throughout the year. Please contact the MCVGA office at 831.375.9400 or visit www.montereywines.org for details about the Winemakers’ Celebration in August and The Great Wine Escape in November.
