Monterey's Wine Country Announces 2nd Annual Passport Weekend
Wine enthusiasts invited to escape to Monterey County from February 13-15, 2004
MONTEREY, CA. - November 1, 2003 - What could be a better Valentine's Day getaway then an unforgettable weekend in romantic wine country? The members of the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association (MCVGA) invite guests to experience the splendor and unparalleled beauty of the region during their Second Annual Passport Weekend.
This three day event will take place from February 13 - February 15, 2004. The wine trail journey begins with the guest picking up their commemorative wine glass and official passport at one of the 20 participating wineries. They will then embark on their adventure by visiting tasting rooms and getting their passport stamped at each location. Winery guests will enjoy music, entertainment, food and wine tasting. Upon completion of touring a select amount of wineries, participants will receive chocolates and will be entered to win the grand prize of a Monterey Wine Country gift basket, valued at over $1500.
The winner of the 2002 Passport Weekend, George Carson of Morgan Hill, California, commented on the event, "My wife and I purchased the Passport Weekend tickets and reserved a room in Monterey as part of our 17th wedding anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed the weather, the scenery, and especially the wine and food we found at the nine wineries that we visited. My wife and I both love wines, and we like visiting wineries and meeting people whose lives are about producing wine as food and art. The hospitality and charm of Monterey Wine Country was superb."
"We were so pleased at the success of last year's event. Valentine's Day Weekend is the perfect opportunity to explore Monterey Wine Country and the scheduling during the long weekend makes it very attractive for an extended get-away", explains Tamara Weinstein, Event Director at the MCVGA. "This year we've also partnered with the hospitality industry to feature exclusive winemakers' dinners throughout the County. This will give guests the chance to partake in the extraordinary culinary aspects of Monterey County, as well as the award-winning wines."
Tickets are available by contacting Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association at (831) 375- 9400 or online at www.montereywines.org ($35.00 before February 1, 2003, $40.00 thereafter). Designated driver tickets are also available for $15.00.
