MONTEREY COUNTY VINTNERS AND GROWERS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES
LOCAL WINNERS FOR THE WINEMAKERS' CELEBRATION ART COMPETITION
Ms. Laura Carley and Mr. Dan Koffman will have their artwork featured at the August 9, 2003 event
Monterey County, CA- June 12, 2003 - Monterey, CA - The Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association (MCVGA) is pleased to announce that Ms. Laura Carley and Mr. Dan Koffman have been selected as the winners of the art competition for the 11th Annual Winemakers' Celebration. The Winemakers' Celebration will occur on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the Custom House Plaza in downtown Monterey.
MCVGA sponsored an art competition for local artists to provide their representation of an artistic piece that best signified Monterey Wine Country. With over 30 wonderful pieces received, the MCVGA Special Events Committee embarked on the challenging job of selecting the pieces that would be replicated on brochures, posters, and logo merchandise.
"This competition initially began last year as a way to celebrate our 10th anniversary of the event. However, we had such a great response from local artists in 2002 that we wanted to get the community involved once again this year," commented Tamara Weinstein, Events Director for MCVGA. She continues, "The themes and visuals represented in Ms. Carley's and Mr. Koffman's pieces really stood out as the way that we wanted to represent this year's event. The "Another Glass" digital montage by Ms. Carley captures the diversity of Monterey County wines and the "United by Wine" print by Mr. Koffman sent a message of camaraderie and unity that that we felt was fitting in describing the members of the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association."
Both winners were very pleased with their selections. Stated Ms. Carley, "I enjoyed creating the wine glass images as they combine three passions of mine - art, photography, and wine. It's an honor to have this work selected to help promote the Winemakers' Celebration."
Mr. Koffman expressed similar sentiments as he commented, "People are passionate about wine and my art is all about people's passions. Finding commonalities in the world today is very important and being united by wine is a great first step."
Posters and logo merchandise that feature the artwork of the winning artists can be purchased in advance at 831.375.9400 or on the day of the event.
